Reiki In Daily Life

From the original The Halls of Reiki reference collection.

A practice for ordinary moments

One of the things that draws people to Reiki is its place in everyday rituals. Many practitioners use a few quiet moments of intention, breath and attention as they move through ordinary parts of the day.

Within Reiki traditions, Universal Life Force Energy is understood as a spiritual way of relating to ourselves and the world around us. Whether you are pausing with a pet, tending a plant or preparing a meal, the practice can be a simple invitation to slow down and be present.

Everyday rituals

Reiki and animals

Some practitioners include a calm, hands-near Reiki practice when spending time with an animal. Let the animal lead: do not restrain them, watch their body language, and give them space to walk away. Reiki is not a substitute for veterinary care, so contact a qualified veterinarian whenever an animal is injured, unwell or in distress.

Reiki and plants

Caring for plants can be a natural moment for reflection. You might pause while watering, repotting or planting seeds, with your hands near the pot, soil or trunk. Think of this less as a result to achieve and more as a mindful way to appreciate the living environment you are tending.

Reiki with food and drink

Before a meal, some practitioners hold their hands near a plate, cup or cooking pan for a few quiet breaths. It can be a small expression of gratitude and a way to arrive more fully at the table. Keep all normal food-safety practices in place.

Other ways to pause

  • Pause with a gift before giving it, setting an intention of care for the recipient.
  • Create a quiet moment in a room by opening a window, tidying the space, breathing slowly or sitting with your hands together.
  • Use a brief grounding practice before entering a crowded place or beginning a demanding task.
  • Take a mindful pause beside a computer, car or household task when frustration starts to build.
  • Spend a few reflective moments with meaningful objects, jewelry, stones or a personal keepsake.
